I want to let you know that Jim's sister, Barb, had total knee replacement yesterday at 9:00 a.m. and she called us later in the day to tell us she walked the halls already! She will do well with her therapy, and we wish her a speedy recovery!
We had loaded some geo-caches to find today, so we struck off for Beaver Creek County Park, which is south of Havre. It is the largest county park in the U.S. and it is quite nice. It's very rustic, and definitely not very busy. They have many campsites in the park, but they don't have any hook ups. So it's dry camping, but they can accommodate all sizes of rigs from small RV's to big rigs. It costs $7.00 a day, which is very reasonable, but you are roughing it! They had some flooding in May of this year, and we could see where it washed out the road in one area, and the lazy little stream that flows through the park, had large rocks and remnants of trees that had fallen from the force of the flooding. We decided to stretch our legs and do a 2 mile hike to find a multi-cache. It had nine stages to it, and we even found the cache in the end! We had to side step some cow pies where we were caching, as this was also, open range and there were a lot of cattle in the park.
The most interesting caches that we found today, were fence post art, made by Cory Holmes. He is a conductor for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and is very creative in his works with scrap metal. He has over 700 fence post art pieces in several states and Canada.
Another thing that we have noticed while traveling through Montana, are the white crosses alongside the road. They indicate that a person was killed in a traffic accident at that spot. We saw one pedestal with seven crosses on it. That was tragic. In this area, they decorate them with flowers, but most of them are just left plain.
We have one more day in Havre to do more caching and see what is of interest in town. Geo-caching does get us to places that we would never know about or find, in a short stay.
We have our satellite dish set up, so we'll watch the Badgers play AZ State tomorrow night. GO BADGERS!
