Oct. 1, 2013

We left Osburn, Idaho this morning, and it was spewing a light drizzle as we headed west.  We were seeing the deciduous trees with their bright gold leaves along the roadside, and they had the backdrop of the tall pines behind them.  It gave a nice contrast and provided us with another beautiful drive through this narrow corridor, that we had been in for several days.  Once we reached Coeur d’Alene, the valley opened up and the picturesque Lake Coeur d’Alene was before us.  This is a very nice area, and we should spend more time here in another visit.  As we entered Washington State, it reminded us so much of Montana with their large ranches and humongous fields.  We also had sunshine!  I call it ‘partly sunny’ but the weatherman says, ‘partly cloudy’! After four and a half days of steady rain, any ray of sunshine was welcome!  We left the interstate at Spokane, and traveled on Hwy. 2, which is only a two lane highway, but a very nice one.  It wasn’t heavily traveled and was in good condition.  We could start to get a glimpse of the Cascade Mountains, as we made it closer to our destination.  We arrived in Coulee City, WA and found a wonderful campsite in the Coulee City Community Park.  It is very much like a Corps of Engineer Park, on the water’s edge and nice and neat.  We were the third RV in the park today, but a few more came in later. This is a great time to travel, as I can’t imagine how hard it would be, to get this site in the summertime.  We had some lunch and struck off to do some geo-caching.  We found about six today, but one of them took us so long, as it brought us to the very scenic Dry Falls State Park Visitor Center.  This is what we love about geo-caching.  It takes us to places that we would never go to.  We watched the video on how Dry Falls was formed and we did an Earthcache and a regular geo-cache there. Dry Falls was formed about 15,000 years ago when the ice age floods ravaged the area.  I’ll post a picture of a sign that I took at the site, as it explains it better than I can.  If the sun shines tomorrow, we’ll go north to the dam and we expect nothing less in scenery.  Today was a 100% day!
