It was very windy this morning when we left Coulee City,
but once we got through the wide valley and past the first set of our elevation
climb, we lost the winds. We also noticed the heavy snow on the mountains in
the distance, and the fog rising above the Columbia River that was ahead of us.
Once we dropped back down into the Wenatchee Valley, we found many fruit
trees. They had apple, pear, peach, and
cherry trees and grape vines. This is
big wine and fruit country. We will go
looking for a fruit farm tomorrow and get some good Washington apples. We got
settled into our best RV campground yet!
We are facing the Icicle River and see no other RV’s in front of
us! We have a prime spot, and again, ‘the
timing is right’. We are about four
miles from the little Bavarian town of Leavenworth. We
struck off for town after eating lunch, and walked around town, checked things
out, had a beer at the microbrewery and met three guys in the 'bier garten', and they were from the area. They were fun to talk to and enlightened us
on a few things about the area. It never
hurts to talk to the locals. They advised
us to eat at King Ludwig’s Restaurant, and we did, and we had a wonderful
German meal there. They had a strolling
accordionist that played during dinner, and he was delightful. We went to the Farmer's Market and bought a loaf of Artisan Black Olive Ciabatta bread, that was baked by a guy that went to Madison West High School, and was a big promoter of the Farmer's Market in Madison, during the 1980's. It's a small world. We know tomorrow and Saturday will be much
busier in town, than today was, and we were glad that we had today to spend there at
our leisure. I’ll just post some
pictures of a few places in town, but the whole town is very German! The flowers are overwhelming and adds to the charm of the town. We are to have three days of sunshine and in
the 60’s for temperature. We’ll take
it.
