Oct. 11 – 17, 2013 Port Angeles, WA
We left Port Townsend this morning and it was only a
short drive to Port Angeles, so we got in and got set up in a lovely place for
the next 6 nights. We are still
overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and we are seeing six loons frolicking
in front of us. This will be a great
spot for our stay here, and the sun is even going to come out! The only problem is that we don’t have wifi
service out here. We will try to send
this first blog out when we go to town on Saturday, and you may not hear from
us again until we get to our next stop by the end of next week. I’ll keep a daily journal on ‘Word’ and
update when we can. We must really be in
the boonies!
Jim is setting up the dish so we can at least get
television, and know what is going on in the world. We should be able to see
the Badgers and the Packers this weekend. I’m hoping the government is ending
their shutdown, so we can go to Olympic National Park. We DO care about all the people that are not
working right now, and not getting into the national parks for us, is secondary
to their problems. We hope it is settled
soon, though. We’ll update when we can.
Happy birthday to Anna Ruth this weekend! We know the Hester Family knows how to celebrate!
Oct. 12 – We are now having phone problems, and it’s
because we are across the strait from Canada, and they have a stronger signal
than the one in the U.S. So, now our
phones and wifi are all shut off. The
other bummer for today is that we thought we would get the WI/NW game. They played two minutes of it, and switched
over to Clemson and Boston College! The
rest of our week looks awesome! No news is good news!
WE'RE BACK! It's actually 10/17/13 and we just arrived in Hoquiam, WA and back to phone service and computer internet! We could live without our phones, but we found out that we can't live without our computers! I will begin to update you on our 6 days in Port Angeles and the area. For the remainder of Oct. 12, we did a little hike around our park and we have some wonderful overlooks to walk to in order to see the beach areas. We do see a lot of big ships coming and going. We went into Port Angeles and sent out our blog “for the week” due to our lack of internet service. We noticed that they were celebrating ‘Dungeness Crab Fest’ in Port Angeles, and we decided to take it in. They had many food vendors under a huge tent, and some of the other restaurants in the area were joining in on the festivities. We had delicious crab cakes and the beverage of choice was Seattle’s Pike Brewing Company, which is a microbrewery. It was a fun thing to take in, and we were lucky to hit it this weekend. We bought our tickets for the ferry ride over to Vancouver Island, and it’s good any day, so we will go when the sun shines.
