Oct. 4, 2013
We have had a
problem with our wifi while in Leavenworth, so I’m posting a couple of days
here. On Oct. 4, we spent the day
geo-caching and walking all around Leavenworth.
We ended up at the Icicle Microbrewery and had a beer there and met two
couples there. We had a great visit with
them. One couple was from the D.C. area and flew out the day the government shut
down. They both work for the government
and one of them works for the Corps of Engineers. We found out some interesting news about the
corps parks, and I don’t think we RVer’s are going to like the changes that are
in the future. We attended the opening
of the Oktoberfest that evening, and found it quite interesting. Everyone wears a hat, and the crazier the
better! There’s even a shop on Front St.
(the most popular street) in town that sells only hats! The music was in 3 tents and their festhalle
(nice building, meaning fest hall), and they all had portable rubber
floors! That is not conducive to easy
dancing. All four halls played European
style music, so it was very fast, and too fast to do the hop polka. The music was entertaining and quite good, for
the most part, and we just listened and watched these crazy people carry
on. We were disappointed in the fact,
that we couldn’t dance to that style, and hard to do on that rubber floor, but
it was still an enjoyable time. Jim
pointed out that it is a typical Oktoberfest, and it did live up to its
reputation. They announced that all
parents take their children home by 9:00, as no one under 21 can be on the
grounds after that time. Does that tell
you anything? We and the children went
home at 9:00! We still had a great day
in Leavenworth, but we found out that we are a generation or two, too old to
hang in there with the best of them, or we have attained the age of common
sense.
